Frequently Asked Questions

Linscott is name of a street in Los Angeles, California where the first meeting of our organization was held. The house was of one of Linscott founding fathers, Jean Bosco Nzemba Kanda who passed away in February 3, 2020.

Living away from your native country and hearing all the bad things happening there is not easy to bear. It is difficult to stay insensible to the killing, hunger, lack of drinking water, lack of electricity, and the list goes on and on. But all these are huge problems that are difficult to resolve. However, this does not mean we should stay quite and do nothing. From this view was born the idea of  Linscott…

We thought raising awareness of what is going in Congo within the Congolese Diaspora and solicit donations of any kind can help us do something in some areas of social life in Congo

We based in California, United States of America

Our organization is structured around three types of membership: Ex Officio, Effective, and Sympathizer.  Anyone one with Kongo root is defacto Linscott Ex Officio member; any ex Officio member who pays his membership dues is an Effective member; Sympathizer is the one with non Kongo root but supports our Organization. Note that only Effective member has the voting privilege.

While being member of Linscott does not require contribution, we ask that members give a monthly donation of $15 to help sustain the organization. Not contributing and the member to lose the power of vote on matter of critical importance

Manianga is both a tribe and an area in Kongo Central Province where the common language spoken is Kikongo. In the context of Linscott, we set Manianga as those originate from the following areas in Kongo Central:

1. Luozi Territory (10 areas)
2. Seke Banza Territory: Insangila Area
3. Songololo Territory: Wombo (Kimpete) area and Luima
4. Mbanza Ngungu Territory: Areas Ntimasi and Lunzadi
5. Some corners of the Kongo Central as to be defined

Absolutely, they can as long as they support our goals, the will not have power of vote though. The idea of Manianga, Kongo Central, is more on the focus of the area our actions will target first; we will reassess this approach as the needs dictate.

We have a board of directors formed of 13 members. These people have the power to vote 4 officers in charge of managing the organization. The members of board are voted by all the members of Linscott. The members of board and the officers are chosen or elected for 4 years with a limit of 5-times.

Yes, Linscott is a 501(c)(3) organization under IRS rule, therefore any US tax payer who donate to Linscott can claim deduction come tax time.

Yes, we help each other.  This brings unity to the Linscott family. Whenever someone is affected by different event, members come together to help the affected person, this is even strong when the member is in good standing on his membership dues

Yes, you can and we will be more than happy to answer

Yes, there is a possibility to that but here what you need to know, our organization’s efforts are driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact without promoting tribalism or exclusivity. Our intention is not to promote division or favoritism but to uplift the Manianga, an area in DR Congo so isolated. We do recognize the importance of unity and collaboration among different ethnic groups, and that Linscott’s efforts are meant to support and empower the Manianga area within the broader context of promoting harmony and equality.

Our core mission is education, healthcare, water access. However, our long term goals may evolve to include the possibility of expanding our initiatives to benefit other marginalized groups in the future. Our current focus on Manianga is to address the urgent needs to alleviate suffering.
