The Linscott Story is quite unique. Around early 2013, Pastor Jules Massamba and a few other individuals initiated a discussion on how to help our people in the DR Congo, especially in Manianga, a very isolated area of Kongo Central Province where crossing the Kongo river carried high risk. Other people joined the conversation, and together, a decision was made to meet at 4832 Linscott Place.
So, Linscott is a street name in Los Angeles where Papa Bosco Nzemba Kanda lived. Hence the name LINSCOTT as the name of our organization was adopted. Here our nonprofit held its first meeting to formalize its creation.
While discussions continued on different topics throughout the whole year of 2013, one consideration was the need for a constitution to govern such a charitable organization structure. After much back and forth on the constitution subject, Papa Andre Kambwa finally put together our first constitution. Pastor Jules Massamba was the first President of the newly formed Linscott
On March 29, 2014, for the first time, all the founding fathers of Linscott held their General Assembly under the leadership of Papa Kambwa Andre to vote on the constitution. After being approved, we operated under this document until its major revision in 2021 as part of incorporating Linscott.
The first years of the group were marred with difficulties and sad events, and not much major or concrete actions could be accomplished, partly because of being new and the passing of several of our core members affected heavily on the overall moral of the group.
On January 1st, 2016, Pastor Jules Massamba passed away unexpectedly. He was replaced by Maman Muadi as the president with Paul Luzolo Mbasani as the organization secretary, and Maman Vero Kaku as the treasurer until July 4th, 2020. Under their leadership, a fictitious business statement for Linscott was filed in May 24, 2017. This is the first time the name Linscott was known as a legal entity based in California.
While the organization was still looking to recover following the passing of Pastor Jules Massamba, Linscott was hit by another piece of sad news, nearly three years after Pastor Jules’ death.
On December 20, 2018, once again, and without warning, Papa Andre Kambwa passed away.
On February 3rd, 2020, Papa Bosco Nzenza Kanda also passed away after a long period of sickness. Linscott lost another one of its founding fathers just as the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning.
On July 4th, 2020, Linscott, during a WebEx session of the general assembly in which Maman Muadi expressed the need to step down, along with the whole leadership team at that time, the group voted 4 individuals to whom to hand over the management. To that end, Victor Masivi, Nzuzi Massamba, Gauthier Kaku, and Toms Massamba were chosen unanimously.
In January 2021, Linscott was incorporated in California and was successfully granted the status of a 501(c)(3) organization under the US IRS classification. Following this milestone, things started shifting to the right direction. Even in the middle of COVID19, we managed things as much as we could.
We held several meetings via Cisco WebEx, We opened a bank account for Linscott at Chase, we put together a website, linscottnonprofit.org, we created a database to manage membership and contributions, The Linscott Kinvuka Database where members can manage their profile and make donations, we introduced the use of QuickBooks for accounting management, and so much more.
On June 22, 2023, we achieved our first major goal, which was the delivery of 100 desks to three different schools in Mbanza Ngoyo, Kongo Central, just as we had initially planned in 2013. This was huge due to so many things to consider; it took the whole 2022 year to work toward it.
Now join us today so we can make more progress and accomplish more for the betterment of our people.
